Benny Lee “BC” Cook, Sr., 43, of Peoria, passed away passionately at 11:18 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Benny was born on June 28, 1965 in Peoria, a son of Benny Scott and Betty A. Cook. His maternal and paternal grandparents preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his parents, of Peoria; daughters, Yashica and Bentrevyka Cook, of Dorchester, MA, Tierra McDowel, Quantina Williams and Latashia Mitchell, all of Peoria; sons, Bentavius, Benny Lee Jr. and Kenneth Cook and Rasheem Hardy, all of Peoria; brothers, Ronnie (Angela) Cook and Jeffrey Scott of Peoria, Kevin Cook of Chicago and Brandon Scott of Cherry Point, NC; sisters, Tracy Scott, Belinda Jones and Vicki Cook, all of Peoria; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Benny was a 1984 graduate of Richwoods High School in Peoria. He was last employed with Gray Interplant of Peoria, working at Caterpillar, Inc.'s Mossville facility in Building DD. He was formerly employed with Getz Fire Equipment, Superior Consolidated and Randall Foods.
He loved fishing, Jazz music and hanging out with his children, friends and family. He especially enjoyed working with his brother, Ronnie, in their vegetable garden.
He was recognized for saving the lives of two children. He caught a child that fell from a third story window and also rescued another child from a burning house.
Benny was full of fun and love. He was a very giving person and would give his last dollar, if he thought it would help someone in need.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at New Cornerstone Baptist Church, 3609 W. Harmon Highway in Peoria, with the Rev. Mark A. McConnell officiating. My Big Brother
My Big Brother, his friends call BC
My Big Brother, our mom calls Benny Lee
It was so hard to stand and watch you in pain
And see you walk with a limp, too proud to use a cane
I could see in your face you were tired
So God accepted your application and said, “You’re hired”.
It’s finally over, your suffering and pain
God takes the best, those who don’t complain
You were the first to be born, and also taken
While we’re the last and trying to get there in the making
There’s not a day that goes by that I won’t think of you
Because you were the brother a sister loved so true
You had a heart as pure as gold
And a beautiful smile that always shined through
My Big Brother, Benny Lee
You will be missed dearly
